What is Joint Pain / Discomfort?

Joint discomfort is common and usually felt in the hands, feet, hips, knees, or spine. Joint sufferers may feel stiff, achy, or sore.

Symptoms can include:
  • Swelling

  • Stiff or enlarged joint

  • Numbness

  • Noisy joints, or clicking, grinding, or snapping sounds when moving the joint

  • Painful movement

  • Difficulty bending or straightening the joint

  • Loss of motion

Who Will Experience Discomfort

  • Had previous injuries to a joint

  • Repeatedly overuse a muscle

  • Have arthritis

  • Elderly people

Causes of joint pain

1. Osteoarthritis
  • A common type of arthritis, happens when the catilage (protective cushion in between the bones,) wears away.
  • It develops slowly and happens during middle age.
Common osteoarthritis symptoms include:
  • Pain and stiffness at the joint.
  • Loss of flexibility.
  • Grating sensation.
  • Swelling at the joint.
2. Rheumatoid arthritis
  • A type of arthritis where the immune system attacks joint lining on both sides of the body.
  • Affects joints on both sides of the body, distinguishing it from other types of arthritis.
Common rheumatoid arthritis symptoms include:
  • Pain, swelling, stiffness and tenderness in more than one joint.
  • Morning or post-sitting stiffness.
  • Fatigue (extreme tiredness).

3. Gout
  • A painful condition where crystals from the body collect in the joint, causing severe pain and swelling.
  • Usually occurs in the big toe.
Common gout symptoms include:
  • Lingering discomfort.
  • Inflammation and redness.
  • Intense joint pain.
  • Limited range of motion.
4. Bursitis
  • A painful swelling in a small, fluid-filled sac called a bursa.
  • Found in the hip, knee, elbow, or shoulder.
Common bursitis symptoms include:
  • Pain when moving affected body part.
  • Swelling.
  • Limited range of motion.

5. Tendonitis
  • Is an inflammation or irritation at the tendon (a connective issue that links muscle and bones).
  • Commonly happens in elbow, heel, or shoulder; usually due to overuse.
Common tendonitis symptoms include:
  • Pain and tenderness in affected tendon, worsened by movement.
  • A lump on the tendon.
  • Swelling
